Try These Ideas
For Preparing Romaine Hearts

  • Add romaine hearts and a little fresh ginger and an apple to a blender or juicer for an easy green juice.

  • Sauté and use as a side dish.

  • Cut into wedges or thick slices, dress with olive oil, garlic, salt, and a few herbs, and grill until slightly charred. The heat brings out the sweetness of the lettuce.

  • Make a low-calorie soup by steaming and pureeing with a little broth or water and your choice of herbs and spices. Lettuce goes especially well with tarragon, chervil, thyme, and garlic.

  • Use the leaves in place of bread or tortillas for sandwiches, wraps or tacos.
