Untreated Swollen Gums Promotes The Encounter With Tooth Loss
One can prevent early gum disease such as gingivitis from progressing to periodontitis – the advance stage of gum disease, by having early treatment of irritated and swollen gums. Having swollen gums that bleed easily during brushing and flossing teeth are the initial stage of gum disease. Swollen gums and bleeding gums are the early indicators of gingivitis.
Plaque is responsible for causing irritated and swollen gums. Plaque builds up along the gum line and the bacteria releases toxic substances which irritates gums. The accumulation of plaque may continue if it is not removed. And in less than 24 hours it will harden into tartar or calculus. The bone structures surrounding the teeth at this point are not compromised. Continuous poor oral hygiene may make gingivitis progress into periodontitis. With this situation, tooth loss may be eventually encountered.
